Tech experience

Software development
I started at college using punchcards and Fortran. My first job involved 8080 and 8086 assembler with HP64000 development system and ICE (in-circuit emulator). I've worked with Eclipse, IntelliJ. At IntelliJ (Russia) I created an excellent quick start and tutorial. I started to write a book about programming with Java (using Sun Java examples).  At Synchronica in Berlin I wrote a detailed description of how Sync4J would implement sychronization between a JES/Exchange server and various phones. I setup the servers, test sync'd and stepped through the code. I am not a professional programmer, but I have the ability to learn what is required to create very useful documentation.

OS's (Windows, Linux, Android)
I know how to keep a Windows PC running. I have installed Linux several times (RedHat and Suse).

DB
At HP Shanghai I documented a synchronizer between Service Center and Quality Center. I ran everything in a VM on my PC, and documented in detail the database modifications on both sides. I have installed and used Oracle and SQL Server and performed basic tasks.

Computer installation, maintenance and repair
I dropped hot tea on the keyboard of my PC. A day later the PC stopped working. HP would not fix, because the warranty did not cover hot tea spills. I then tried to fix myself. I search around in the internet and found info on how to put Linux on a USB and boot up from the USB. I found out that the PC motherboard was fine, but there was no hard drive. The new drive was also not recognized. So I just tried cleaning off the hard drive cable contacts. It worked. And there was no data loss. I have often installed routers, printers, etc. I have 5 PCs that I maintain myself, and over 30 years of PC ownership I have the basic skills to keep things working.

Security (data backup, anti-virus, phishing, spam)
I've lost lots of work several times because I failed to backup data. Nowadays I am much more careful about backing up my work.  I keep those 5 PCs running by knowing how to avoid security threats. I worked at TrendMicro, whose engineers in Nanjing also taught me a lot about security. I keep myself informed about the latest scams and tricks. The best defense is good anti-virus and avoiding potential threats.

Framemaker, MS Word, OpenOffice Writer
I have created single-source documentation sets based on Framemaker using conditional text, multiple books, imported styes, Webworks (for creating help). I am very good at keeping things as simple and easy to use as possible.  I know the proper formats for screenshots, pictures, and diagrams. I once created a very complex MS Word macro that created a customized document from a single master file based on customer, language, and product version.

Single-source docs (Webworks, Robohelp, Flair, etc.)
I always focus on creating deliverables, not getting stuck in trying to master tools, or getting stuck doing things the way the tool is designed to do things. I really prefer using the Framemaker + Webworks combo to create help from PDF source files. But whatever you are using and for whatever reason, I will readily follow your guidelines.

DITA, XML
I am currently working with OxygenXML.

Translation software (Trados)
I used Trados with translation memory at HP Shanghai.
